Overview
Beaches, art galleries, and fine dining attract visitors from all over the world to this region of Massachusetts. It’s family friendly, honeymoon friendly, and solo travel friendly. Bring the kids to the Cape Cod National Seashore to check out the Salt Ponds, hike the Red Maple Swamp Trail, or go swimming at one of the six beaches. Or why not join the fisherman at Race Point Beach and then cook up your catch for dinner? On your own? How about a solo hike on the Great Island Trail?
Whichever activity you choose, it’s tough to be bored in Cape Cod.
CuisineSeafood, seafood, seafood - that’s your best bet for dining in Cape Cod. You can dine at the finest restaurants with white tablecloths and candlelight where you can chat over bowls of lobster bisque, cedar plank salmon, and chocolate tortes. Or you can go casual with a stop at a roadside or seaside clam shack. Imagine digging into fried clams and following it up with an ice cream cone and a walk on the beach. Seek out the best lobster rolls with butter or mayo.
Farm to table dining is huge in Cape Cod, too. Local food, whether seafood or not, is the best food in the area. At breakfast, seek out independent coffee shops with homemade blueberry muffins. For lunch, hit up a clam shack or find a vegetarian cafe featuring sandwiches and soups stuffed with local veggies. At dinner, seek out an upscale place advertising farm to table cuisine and a menu that frequently changes for a seasonal taste of Cape Cod served simply and perfectly.
RomanticA long walk on the beach might be cliche, but it’s still one of the most romantic moments in Cape Cod. Walk along the cape hand in hand at sunrise before heading for breakfast and coffee in a cute seaside cafe. Or spend the whole afternoon wandering and exploring coastal lighthouses, clam shacks, and rock faces.
Stay at one of the cute, quiet inns or bed and breakfasts along the coast. Enjoy the intimate atmosphere, the privacy of a luxurious bedroom, and lingering over a homemade breakfast (that neither of you have to cook). Many couples choose to honeymoon at one of these lovely seaside bed and breakfasts. Others plan weddings on the beach in the sweet, salt air with waves crashing in the background. Almost all of the inns have space for wedding receptions and some specialize in planning weddings for eager brides- and grooms-to-be.
