  • Overview

Boston is a classic, all-American city complete with Revolutionary War sites, one of America’s oldest ballparks, and pop culture icons like the bar Cheers. It has a distinctly New England feel with plenty of green space, ivy colored university walls (Harvard is here), and excellent seafood restaurants. Summers are warm but usually mild and the best time to visit Boston. Many sites are outside, the Freedom Trail is a pleasant and informative walk on a sunny day, and Fenway Park is much more fun when it isn’t raining. Winters are cold and gray, but that’s when the arts scene picks up and there are more opportunities to head to the theater.

    Historic

Boston is one of America’s oldest cities and was the site of many important Revolutionary War era events. The Freedom Trail guides visitors through Boston past most of these sites including the Paul Revere House and the site of the Boston Massacre.

The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum showcase the flavor and history of the era. The site includes replicas of the three ships present for the Boston Tea Party, a large history museum, reenactment sites, and a restaurant.

The John F. Kennedy National Historic Site brings a more recent era of American history to life. The site is the birthplace of President Kennedy and was restored to look as it did around the time of his birth. President Kennedy’s mother, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, was a major player in the restoration.

    Spectator Sports

In Boston, you’re in the heart of Red Sox Nation. The Curse of the Bambino is serious business here and fans are still excited about the Red Sox recent World Series Championships, which have reversed the curse. Fenway Park, the oldest Major League Baseball ballpark, is a place of legend with its own landmarks inside, which fans eagerly seek out when visiting. One of these, the lone red seat, marks the distance of the longest home run ever hit at Fenway, which was hit by Ted Williams.

The Red Sox aren’t the only popular Boston sports team. It’s tough to get tickets for Celtics games, especially since their 2008 championship. And it’s a winning century for Boston teams so far, as the New England Patriots have brought home three Super Bowl wins since 2000 and they’re tickets are tough to come by, too. Best advice: book in advance if you want to see any Boston team.
