Overview
A small Balkan country, Albania is mostly overlooked by tourists as the country has a history of isolation and political upheaval. However, Albania has hopes to become a member of the European Union within the next few years and to become more integrated into the fabric of Europe. Despite the political situation, the Albanian people are welcoming and enjoy sharing their culture with the few adventurous visitors who tour their country every year. The official language is Albanian, but many people speak a second language like Italian (as the country was occupied by Italy several times), Greek, or German.
NatureTurquoise waters line the pristine coast of Albania on the Ionian Sea. Unlike many of the beaches in the region, those on the coast of Albania are still hidden gems. White sands, craggy rocks, sea grasses, and brilliant pink flowers color the beaches. In summer, lounge on the sands, do a bit of swimming, or go for a boat ride. In the winter, bundle up for a short stroll along the waters which hold their beauty even on the chilliest days.
